Outdoor Adventures
As a former boy scout [Eagle, God & Country, OA/Brotherhood], I grew up with a love of nature and being outdoors. I've been fortunate enough to hike all over the US and in Europe and Japan (where I attended the 13th World Jamboree back in 1971).

In 2004 I took a cross country roadtrip visiting 30+ National Parks, as well as, friends and colleagues along the way. Since then most of my hiking has been local, but now that I'm retired (Nov 2023) I'm going to start taking some more road trips.

To that end, I took one in June of 2025 that took me from my home in Ithaca, NY through PA, WV, OH, MI, WI, MN, ND, back to MN, WI, IL, IN, OH, WV, PA and finally home.

Then in June of 2026 I flew out to Rapid City, SD and used that as my home base to visit some National and State Parks and Monuments in SD, ND and WY.

So now, as shown in the following map, I've been to 49 of our 50 US states and hiked at various venues in 27 states.
States I've Visited
For Alaska I'm guessing a cruise might be best for at least part of the trip and then take some day trips if time allows to visit one or more National Parks. While Alaska has 8 National Parks, only a couple/few of them are easily accessible by land (car, bus, train). That will take a fair amount of planning once my other half is ready to go (post dogs).

Below are some of the places I've been lucky enough to enjoy during my travels so far. While there are only a handful of parks represented at the moment, I've actually been to 39 US National Parks (that's 64% of them) and then additional National Monuments, National Forests, National Memorials, National Seashores, etc. I'll get more places added as time permits.

And of course let's not forget that there are really beautiful State and Local parks that are definitely worth seeing and I will be including some of those destinations I've been to as well.
